Parent U: What You Need to Know About the Reading Language Arts STAAR Redesign

Spring Branch ISD is hosting Parent U: Reading Language Arts, What Do I Need to Know About STAAR Redesign for third through fifth grade families on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. This session will reinforce the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test preparation in the classroom and at home.

The Reading Language Arts (RLA) STAAR test is being redesigned to make the assessment more tightly aligned to the classroom experience. The redesign will be implemented during the 2022-23 school year. The RLA assessment will evaluate both reading and writing and will include new question types and an extended constructed response (or essay) at every grade level.

During this Parent U, SBISD’s Humanities, Multilingual, Special Ed and Dyslexia teams will provide information on how campuses are providing quality RLA programs for students. Additionally, families will learn how they can strengthen their students’ reading and writing knowledge at home.
