For April Tavilson, becoming principal of Hollibrook Elementary (HBE) isn't about joining a new community—it's about continuing to serve one she already calls home.
After several years as Hollibrook's assistant principal, Tavilson has celebrated student successes, partnered with families and worked alongside teachers to help every child reach their potential. Now, she's stepping into the principal role with a deep understanding of the school, its people and the possibilities ahead.
"Relationships come first," Tavilson said. "When people feel valued, supported and connected, amazing things can happen."
That belief has guided her educational journey from the classroom to campus leadership. Inspired by her mother, who instilled the value of hard work and the life-changing power of education, Tavilson has dedicated her career to creating opportunities for students while supporting teachers and strengthening school communities.
As principal, she is focused on building a culture centered on belonging and growth. She wants every student to feel safe, loved and empowered, every staff member to feel supported, and every family to know they are valued partners in their child's success.
"What excites me most is that Hollibrook already holds a special place in my heart," Tavilson said. "Together, we will continue creating a school where students feel loved, challenged and inspired, where staff feel valued and supported, and where every child is prepared for the opportunities that await them."
Outside of school, Tavilson enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures and spending time outdoors, whether by the sea or in the mountains. She's also embracing a new hobby, gardening, a fitting pursuit for a leader who believes that with care, collaboration and the right environment, Every Child has the opportunity to grow and thrive.
